Exclusive Regions
Bright Pattern servers and processors prioritize making connections in a single region, and connect to other regions when a local one is not available.
By designating a region as Exclusive and assigning it to a trunk, you can ensure that inbound and outbound calls routed by that trunk can only be connected (whether by transfer or conference) with calls on trunks assigned to the same region.
This allows you to maintain regulatory compliance when operating in locations where VoIP bypass of domestic calls is prohibited.
Behavior of Calls Routed by an Exclusive Region Trunk
When a trunk is configured with an exclusive region, the system will ensure that calls routed by the trunk will not be connected via conference or transfer to trunks with any other region. The following cases illustrate the general behavior of the system.
Inbound Calls:
- Can only be connected to agents with an appropriate phone configuration and in the same exclusive region.
- Connect Call scenario blocks connecting to external numbers will exclusively use a trunk with the matching region.
- Connect Call blocks connecting to internal extensions will only connect to agents with appropriate phone configurations
- If a Connect Call block is unable to connect due to a region restriction, it exits with either a No Answer or Busy exit, allowing the error to be gracefully handled by the Scenario.
Transferring and Conferencing Calls:
- Agent Desktop and CRM Widgets will disable transfer buttons when the resulting transfer or conference could result in a call routed by an exclusive region trunk being connected with a call routed by a different trunk.
Agent Phone Configurations:
- Agent Desktop controlled phones are the only types of phones which are allowed to handle exclusive region calls.
- Hard Phones and Third-party Softphones are never allowed to handle exclusive region calls, because such device can have their own conference capabilities.
Configure a Trunk to Use an Exclusive Region
In order to configure a trunk to use an exclusive region:
- In System Configuration > Regions, add a region and check the Exclusive option.
- Select the desired trunk from Phone System > Trunks, and choose the region marked as Exclusive in the tenant Region.
